Cascade Mountain Ash (Sorbus scopulina)
Cascade mountain ash is a hardy, multi-stemmed shrub that is gorgeous in all seasons, and a great ornamental shrub for the garden. Large, flat-topped clusters of creamy white flowers appear in spring to early summer, attracting bees, butterflies, and other pollinators. In late summer, the flowers are replaced by large clusters of bright orange to red fruits, adding a pop of colour to the landscape. The attractive, shiny leaves go from dark green to yellow, orange, and red in the fall. Cascade mountain ash is great for attracting birds to your garden, as they can't resist the fruits! The fruits are also edible to humans, although they are best prepared into jam or wine, rather than eaten raw.
