Kinnikinnick (Arctostaphylos uva-ursi)

Sale price$12.00

Kinnikinnick is a low-growing evergreen shrub that makes an excellent, low maintenance groundcover in dry soils. Long branches covered in small, leathery, dark green leaves trail along the ground, occasionally rooting at nodes as they touch the soil, and slowly form a dense mat that aids in erosion control on slopes. In spring, bees, hummingbirds, and other pollinators are drawn to the light pink urn-shaped flowers. In summer, the flowers are replaced by bright red fruits, which often persist into the winter. Kinnikinnick looks stunning planted at the top of rock walls, where it can drape down; it is also perfect for rock gardens, xeric gardens, and pollinator gardens in sunny, dry open spaces. Kinnikinnick plants do not like to have their roots disturbed, so take care when siting them.
