Rosy Twisted Stalk (Streptopus lanceolatus)
Rosy twisted stalk is an elegant, low-growing perennial that thrives in shady, moist environments. Attractive lance-shaped leaves appear alternately along zig-zag stems up to 1' tall, which grow from a rhizome. Dainty, bell-shaped, rose-tinged flowers appear in the spring, providing nectar for smaller bees and other pollinating insects. By mid-summer, the flowers are replaced by round, red berries, which are best left for wildlife. With its rhizomatous habit, rosy twisted stalk makes a lovely slow-spreading groundcover for moist woodland gardens and shaded borders.
