Rain Coast Nursery is a small native plant nursery located in Squamish, British Columbia, growing a wide variety of perennials, shrubs and trees that are all native to the Sea to Sky region and coastal BC. Our mission is to make native plants more easily accessible to gardeners throughout the region by offering online shopping and shipping of live plants, to provide high quality plants for land restoration, and to contribute to the health of our local ecosystem by growing plants that support native insects, birds, and other wildlife.

The term 'native plant' refers to a plant species that naturally occurs within a specific region or ecosystem, without having been introduced by humans from other parts of the world. Native plants have co-evolved with all the other plants, insects, birds, mammals, and other organisms that are also native to the region, and have formed mutualistic relationships with each other over thousands of years. Every plant is native to some part of the world, and introducing non-native plants can have negative impacts on an ecosystem.
Why grow native plants?
Native plants have real ecological value; they are more than just ornamental, they play a vital role in the ecosystem that they evolved in. They provide habitat and food for wildlife. They support native pollinators such as bees and butterflies, many of which rely on specific native plant species to survive. Their roots improve soil health and prevent erosion. They are adapted to thrive in our climate and soils, making them low maintenance and requiring less water and fertilizer. They are beautiful, diverse, and a pleasure to grow!
